Notes from the Veranda

From Downton to Gan!

Good ‘Snowy-Blowy’ Morning… (yet again!)

Well dear friends, Heritage Week has come and gone for another year and we must give huge kudos to all who joined us in making our events such a huge success! The Heritage Ambassadors of Kingston graciously guided our guests back in time to an earlier period, reflective of the immensely popular TV program, Downton Abbey. Beautifully detailed period costuming and displays, delightful narratives and engaging participants proved to be the perfect mix for an Edwardian afternoon of Tea and Sweets!

This year as well, we were awed and inspired by the participation and excitement of the Thousand Islands Quilters’ Guild! Their wonderful displays of quilts and a variety of gift items and accessories reflected not only their knowledge and artistry but made us feel that spring is ‘just around the corner’ with all the fabulous colours and designs presented ~ such talent!

As well, no Heritage Week would be possible without our truly incredible volunteers and staff, who always step-up and lend a hand when and where we need it! You are a joy to work alongside and your enthusiasm and dedication is what helps to bring our museum events to life! As the new season begins to unfold, we look forward to seeing all your smiling faces throughout 2014 ~

And to our many guests and friends who purchased tickets and joined in the fun for Tea and Sweets (and/or) for Court Whist ~ your support is truly appreciated as always. We hope you will stop by often as the season opens, to help us commemorate the anniversary period of the First World War and our local histories. Many, many interesting new seasonal exhibits are in making for spring opening! And I must mention too, that expansions to some of our ‘permanent’ exhibits will be showcased as well ~ Yes! we ARE very busy bees over winter!

Please join us May 3rd for Opening Day at the Museum ~ we are anxiously awaiting the spring flowers and river breezes!  Keep watch on our events calendar for details on all upcoming events.

Take good care and once again, our sincerest thanks to all!

Judy
